Learn To Ride At Yorkshire EC

Looking for somewhere to ride...

Alongside our Event Centre and Livery Yard, Yorkshire EC offers it's fantastic facilities to our Riding School providing our riders some of the most well schooled, talented horses in the area. Each with super personalities to assist our Instructors in helping you perfect your skills.

You can hone your skills in one of our four riding arenas -

  • Covered All Weather 20mx40m

  • Outdoor 16mx32m

  • Outdoor 60mx35m

  • Grass Showjumping Paddock with full set of competition showjumps

  • Woodland and Grass Hacking Tracks with xc fences on site

We pride ourselves on teaching riders to ride correctly, using the 'natural aids' of the seat, leg and voice of the rider, not to rely on the reins and kicking on.

We offer private lessons, semi-private and group lessons, keeping numbers small and groups in 'open order' so everyone gets to ride and learn as an indivdual too. We encourage riders to think and to be creative with their horse.

For 3 year olds our 1/2hr Pony Walk Outs are a perfect way of introducing them to the world of horse riding and gaining suitable instruction along the way.

Our lessons are tailored to suit each individual rider from a complete beginner to a serious horse riding fanatic! Ensuring that you progress at a speed to suit your confidence, abilities and goals.

We require all new riders, regardless of your ability and experience book a 30 minute Private Assessment Session, so that we can check we match you to suitable horses, Instructors and other riders.

All our beginner and novice level lessons are taught on a 1 - to 1 private basis to provide the rider with the best chance to develop a strong sense of feel for the horses movement and a secure riding position.

Riders who have mastered the art of sitting and rising trot along with controlling their horsey team mate around the arena can have the opportunity to ride in our Semi-Private or Group Lessons.

These are tailored to suit so that all riders are of similar ability and goals.

Enjoyed another brilliant pub hack, 2 hours out in the countryside on horseback can't be beaten. Gemma and the fabulous Ola led us out as safely as ever.

The lessons are also great, goes beyond the normal walk, trot, canter; you are given an understanding of the horse and more intricate movements e.g dressage techniques. - Gemma G

Love riding at YEC, Gemma teaches me something new every single lesson and I always come away feeling really happy. Can't wait to learn more about stable management and to go on a pub hack this summer! - Shruti B

I love riding at YEC. Gemma is a brilliant instructor who never fails to come up with new and innovative ways to improve my riding. Having ridden since being a teenager I found that many other riding schools were a waste of money and were only capable of teaching novices to ride ploddy horses. At YEC I learn something new every lesson. The lesson plans, Gemma's expertise and the personalities of the brilliant horses ensure lessons never dull.

Gemma and YEC are nothing short of amazing! After having ridden for years and picked up plenty of bad habits I was really after an instructor that was interested in helping me improve, rather than having me do the same lessons on repeat. This is exactly what you get with Gemma! Her instruction is incredible, helping you pinpoint your exact problems, and providing many different exercises to help you correct every aspect of your riding. The horses are fit, responsive, and well schooled and the facilities are perfect. Basically it's wonderful, and the fact that I travel down from Edinburgh for a lesson is testament to the quality of this place. Thanks Gemma :) x

Enjoyed a perfect end to a long week at work, hacking out with Gemma and some of the YEC girls. Blew away the cobwebs! Had a lovely time as I always do at YEC Been going to YEC for years and learnt so much and still learning, we love the place. Loads of variety, great horses and always fun-I'd be there everyday if I could! - Izzy G

Love it here, best riding place I have ever been. Wide variety of horses and crazy, but fun instructors. 10 out of 5 stars from me! - Emily S

YEC definitely makes it worth it! I have been riding for a number of years, unfortunately I lost my confidence. Gemma, all the staff and horses made me feel so welcome  I recommend YEC to all stages of riding. I have improved so much in confidence and will continue to go.

Team YEC!!  - Olivia J
